At Mercedes College we have created prerequisites to help students choose the most suitable subjects and PATHWAY. We want students to be successful, maximise their potential and achieve great outcomes. Our prerequisites are informed by data, as well as our professional experience.

ATAR Biological Sciences | Required: Minimum C grade in Year 10 Advanced Science or B in General Science. Recommended: Minimum C grade in Year 10 Advanced Science or A in General Science |
ATAR Chemistry | Required: Minimum C grade in Year 10 Advanced Science. or A in General Science with excellent results in all Chemistry assessments. Recommended: Minimum B grade in Year 10 Advanced Science. Similar results in Year 10 Extended Mathematics course. |
ATAR Children, Family & the Community | B in Mainstream English or C in Extended English |
ATAR Chinese | B in Year 10 Chinese (Students may not apply if not studied in Year 10) SCSA application for permission to enrol in a Language form must be submitted |
ATAR Design | 60% in Mainstream English and B in Design or Visual Arts |

ATAR Economics | 60% in the Economics topic within Year 10 Social Sciences. |
ATAR English | 60% in English Mainstream Coursework and Semester 1 Examination. 50% in English Extended Coursework and Examination. Successful completion of OLNA |
ATAR French | B in Year 10 French (Students may not apply if not studied in Year 10) SCSA application for permission to enrol in a Language form must be submitted |
ATAR Geography | 60% in the Geography topic within Year 10 Social Sciences. |
ATAR Human Biological Science | Required: Minimum C grade in Year 10 Advanced Science or B in General Science. Recommended: Minimum C grade in Year 10 Advanced Science or A in General Science. |

ATAR Media Production & Analysis | 60% in Mainstream English |
ATAR Modern History | 60% in the History topic within Year 10 Social Sciences. |
ATAR Music | 60% in Mainstream English Students will need to show good practical skills on their chosen instrument (or voice) at a minimum level equivalent to AMEB Grade 5 by the end of Year 10. Students are required to participate in an ensemble. It is an expectation that students will be engaged in at least a 1-hour weekly instrument lesson in Year 11/12. Students must be aware that a high level of vocal/instrumental practice is expected outside of class time. |
ATAR Physical Education Studies | ‘B’ grade in General Science, and have shown potential in all aspects of Year 10 Physical Education or Physical Education Studies with a minimum B Grade. |
ATAR Physics | Required: Minimum C grade in Year 10 Advanced Science or A in General Science with excellent results in all Physics assessments. Recommended: Minimum B grade in Year 10 Advanced Science. Similar results in the Year 10 Extended Mathematics course. |
ATAR Politics and Law | 60% in the Politics and Law topic within Year 10 Social Sciences. |
